Daniel Hiestand Memorial Concert

Featuring the 2016 Marine Band’s March Mania Contest winner, the “Stars and Stripes Forever,” the Chico State bands and alumni invite you to join them as we honor the late Daniel Hiestand and support the scholarship in his name. The Chico State Wind Ensemble will open the first half of the concert, while the Alumni Band will round out the second half.

Patricia Ingram: Curious Novelties

Patricia Ingham, professor of English and medieval studies at Indiana University, will explore the medieval history of the terms “novelty” and “curiosity” to suggest how the history of invention might help us to dream a sustainable future. Professor Ingham is the author of The Medieval New: Ambivalence in an Age of Innovation.

Ensemble Concert
CSU, Chico Low Brass Choir

Formed in 1995 and composed of tubas, trombones, euphoniums, and French horns, CSU, Chico’s Low Brass Choir will be presenting a concert full of highly enjoyable music from all genres! In this veritable smorgasbord of
classical and jazz music, all eras of classical music, from the Renaissance to contemporary, as well as some jazz pieces and premieres, will be heard. Come enjoy instruments that composers employ to depict the Voice of God, the Voice of the Devil, and the Voice of Fatherly Figures. This event is presented by the Department of Music and Theatre.

Dust Bowl Mix is a new work composed by David Dvorin for guitar, violin, and electronics that tunes into California’s migratory past while reflecting on the environmental present. This event is presented by the Department of Music and Theatre.

WHO WE ARE
The School of the Arts is made up of two departments in the College of Humanities and Fine Arts (HFA) — Music & Theatre, and Art. Ensembles include The North State Symphony, Jazz X-Press, Chico State Bands, Opera Workshop, and the CSU, Chico Choirs. Each year we present six or more theatre productions.
