Department of Music Fundraiser, "Let's Get It On," to
Feature Student, Faculty and Community Performers

CSU, Chico’s Department of Music will present its spring semester fundraiser, Let’s Get It On, a salute to the Motown greats from the ‘60s and ‘70s – Stevie Wonder, The Supremes, The Jackson Five, Marvin Gaye, and many others -- Friday, February 10 beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Harlen Adams Theatre.
Let’s Get It On will feature Motown’s greatest hits performed by community members, students, and faculty musicians.
“We had a great turnout at our auditions in December and the makeup of the groups and performers is equally balanced between students, community members and faculty,” said Department of Music chair Keith Seppanen, coordinator of the concert.
Among the groups and individuals performing will be CSU, Chico’s Jazz X-Press, The Sonic Ukes, Daun Weiss, Hugh Hammond, Lisa Langley and James Chato, Robert Karch and Sharon Demeyer, Clouds on Strings, John Mahoney, and Michelle McConkey.
Songs being performed are a virtual list of Motown’s greatest hits – “Love Child,” “You and I,” “Don’t Worry ‘Bout A Thing,” “My Girl,” “ABC,” “What’s Going On,” and many others.
All in all twenty-one songs will be performed by sixty-two musicians.
Seppanen said a concert of Motown’s greatest hits was an easy choice for the fundraiser.
“Last year we did the Beatles and it was a big success,” said Seppanen. “Motown has a wonderfully deep catalog and we thought that it would be fun to see how the faculty, students, and community would dive into it.”
Backing up some of the performers will be a house band led by Chico State alum Bruce MacMillan consisting of drums, bass, guitar, keyboard, background vocals, and horns.
Proceeds from Let’s Get It On will be used for bringing in guest lecturers, supporting students when they want to travel to conferences and honor festivals, and to purchase small equipment that the Music Department has a hard time getting funded.
Advance tickets, at $20 each, are available at the University Box Office (898-6333). Add $2 for tickets purchased at the door. For disability-related seating accommodations, please call 898-4325.
