Chico State's SOTA Productions Partners with Local Sponsors for Special Multi-State "BandSwap" Event
As part of a unique multi-state “BandSwap” program, Chico State’s School of The Arts (SOTA) Productions, along with the City of Chico, Synmedia, Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, the Madison Bear, and the Synthesis will be presenting a number of special music events September 19-21.
“The ‘bandswap’ concept is a simple one — trade local bands with strong fan bases from different markets and partner them with similar artists in participating cities, thereby exposing out-of-town artists to a welcoming fan base,” said Anita Rivas, CSU, Chico Department of Music and Theatre faculty member and coordinator of SOTA Productions. “Through this alliance with BandSwap sister cities, Chico is providing opportunities for artist development and education, and direct support for our local economy.”
Festivities begin at noon on Thursday, September 19 with a free acoustic blues set by CAMMIE Award winner Big Mo in the Free Speech Area at Chico State. The performance is open to the public.
The next day, Friday, September 20th, the Madison Bear will be the place to be. A “Starving Artist’s Networking Party” with music industry executives — Roger Gisborne (musician and owner of L.A.-based M.O.V.E. Studios), Catherine Enny (CEO & Founder of San Francisco’s Guerrrilla Management), Dani Grant (founder of BandSwap from Fort Collins Colorado), Valerie Reddemann (Chico-based media/PR director), and Wendy Brynford-Jones (L.A.-based music publicist) — will kick things off at 4 p.m. Gisborne, Enny, Grant, Reddemann and Brynford-Jones, along with moderator Rivas, will participate in a Music Industry Panel on Artist Development, which will include a Q and A, at 5 p.m. A live performance upstairs at The Bear by the Lindsey O’Brien Band (“bandswapped” from Colorado) keeps things rolling at 6 p.m. Events at The Bear are free and open to the public.
Big Mo and the Full Moon Band, along with the Lindsey O’Brien Band (and another as-of-now unnamed opening act), close out the three-day event with what promises to be another great show, this time at Sierra Nevada’s “Big Room.” Call Sierra Nevada Brewing Company at 530.896.2198 for ticket information; tickets also available online.
At some later date Big Mo will perform at one of the BandSwap sister cities — Nashville, Madison, Portland, Asheville, Lafayette, Denver and Fort Collins — completing the Chico end of the “bandswap.”
